About the Scientific Archivists Group
The Scientific Archivists Group (SAG) is a non-profit organisation, established for over 20 years, aiming to exchange knowledge relating primarily to archives with scientific application but applicable to archivists and records managers from other disciplines. Members of the group include archivists and record managers from many leading scientific organisations and commercial service providers.
- To develop a professional status for members
- To improve the discipline of archiving
- To ensure archives meet business, scientific and regulatory needs
- To encourage a high external profile
To achieve these aims the group:
- Promotes training in the processes associated with archives and their staff, advances the professional competency of its members and promotes co-operative relations with allied organisations
- Advances standards of the profession of Archivists and Record Managers
- Co-ordinates comments on current issues, and where appropriate commends these comments to appropriate authorities
- Print and publish periodicals, books or leaflets that promote the objectives of the group
- Promotes and participates in meetings, congresses and symposia which allow exchange of information on the role of archivist, document and records managers, and encourages members to keep abreast of technological developments
